As you have read in previous pages on this website - we believe to truely know an individual Basset you should learn as much as you can about the breed, and by doing some research before you begin your search - hopefully there will be no shocks for you 6, 12 or 18 months down the line and you will be start what is after all, a lifelong commitment and friendship on a solid foundation. The most experienced of breeders will tell you they never stop learning about this fascinating breed, the experienced know that you get no two Basset Hounds who are alike they are and can be as different as chalk and cheese!
We decided to include a list of books on the breed, that we think are informative and give a good insight into the breed. Many of our longest established breeders in this country have written books on the Basset Hound there are also many by American authors too. All written with the exception of a few by people how have devoted years and years of their lives to the love of the breed and decided to shared their vast wealth of knowledge. All contain useful information for any enthusiast whether you have a pet or for show exhibitors. Many can be ordered from good book shops or Amazon.co.uk, although sadly many are no longer in print, but for anyone interested in second hand book shops or indeed the internet they can be picked up at very good prices!
